What is Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ)?

Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) is a professional organization which represents Veterinary and Para-Veterinary professionals across Zambia. VAZ is governed by it's members who elect an Executive Committee of 19 members. At an international level, VAZ is a member of two international organizations - World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the Commonwealth Veterinary Association (CVA).

 

What is Veterinary Council of Zambia (VCZ)?

The Veterinary Council of Zambia (VCZ) is a legal body that exists as a separate entity to the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ). However, VAZ and VCZ are interlinked in the following ways:

  • Five members voted from the Executive Committee of VAZ sit on the Council - Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, a Private Veterinary Representative, a Paraprofessional representative and Public Veterinary representative.
  • The other members of the Council as prescribed by the Act are:
  1. UNZA Dean of Veterinary Medicine
  2. The Director Veterinary Services from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock
  3. A representative from ZNFU
  4. A representative from the Attorney General

Functions of VAZ & VCZ

What are the functions of VAZ?

  • Facilitate the acquisition of knowledge by veterinary and veterinary paraprofessionals through the establishment of technical libraries, and the provision of monetary grants, books, apparatus and any other facilities necessary to achieve this end.
  • Hold meetings of the Association for the reading and discussion of papers of professional interest, to make awards to authors of papers of special merit and to arrange for other activities of interest or benefit to veterinary and veterinary paraprofessionals
  • Raise the character and status of the veterinary and veterinary para-profession and allied disciplines, to promote honourable and good practice and increase the confidence of the community in those per-sons practicing in veterinary and veterinary paraprofessional and allied disciplines.
  • Promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and to serve as an arbitral institution for disputes of a veterinary and veterinary para-profession nature.
  • Represent, protect and assist veterinary surgeons and veterinary para-professionals with regard to their conditions of practice, remuneration or otherwise.
  • Do all such things as are necessary, or incidental to the performance of its functions under this Act.

What are the functions of the VCZ?

  • Register all veterinary surgeons and veterinary para-professionals.
  • Regulate the veterinary surgeon and veterinary-paraprofessional's conduct.
  • Register students of veterinary and veterinary para-professionals studies.
  • Accredit, monitor quality control, and assurance of veterinary education establishments or training institutions in collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies/institutions.
  • Accredit training programs, courses and curricula for veterinary surgeons and veterinary para-professionals in collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies/institutions.
  • Develop, maintain and improve appropriate standards of qualifications in the veterinary profession in consultation with relevant regulatory bodies/institutions.
  • Enforce internationally comparable veterinary profession practice standards in the Republic of Zambia.
  • Investigate allegations of professional misconduct and impose such sanctions as may be necessary.
  • Determine the fees to be paid for certificates, permits, licenses, inspections and authorizations under this Act.
  • Promote understanding of professional ethics amongst veterinary surgeons and veterinary para-professionals.
  • Maintain and enhance the prestige, status and dignity of the veterinary professionals and the integrity of per-sons practicing the veterinary profession.
  • License public and private animal health facilities and monitor welfare, quality control and assurance of animal health facilities and services.
  • Create public awareness on the importance of protecting the public against unsound veterinary practices and ensure that rules and guidelines of professional ethics are responsive to the public expectations and those who rely on the veterinary profession.
  • Develop and enforce the requirements for continuing professional development among veterinary professionals and veterinary para-professional.
  • Advise government on matters relating to the veterinary profession and its regulation.

Registration at VAZ

Who is mandated to register with the Veterinary Association of Zambia?

All Veterinaries and Para-Veterinary professionals across Zambia are required to be registered with the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) and there by certified by the Veterinary Council of Zambia (VCZ) Registrar. Additionally, all Animal Health Facilities are required to be registered and certified by the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ).

How is the registration process at the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ)?

The registration process at the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) is fairly simple.

  1. Visit our Forms Center and download your suitable registration form.

  2. Print out your registration form (colour or black & white). Fill it out thoroughly and have it stamped where necessary.

  3. Scan your filled out registration form, ensuring all pages are merged in one document.

  4. Go to our Veterinary Council of Zambia center, and upload your filled out registration form, together with your payment receipt.

How long does the registration / certification process take at the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ)?

The registration / certification process at the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) take seven (7) working days. To check the status of your application, please visit our Certification Department.

Are Fresh Graduates allowed to register with the Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ)?

Absolutely!
Fresh graduates are most welcome to register with the Veterinary Association of Zambia,
and the registration process is fairly simple.

  1. Visit our Forms Center and download your suitable registration form.

  2. Print out your registration form (colour or black & white). Fill it out thoroughly and have it stamped where necessary.

  3. Scan your filled out registration form, ensuring all pages are merged in one document.

  4. Go to our Veterinary Council of Zambia center, and upload your filled out registration form, together with your payment receipt.

Fees & PAYMENT Details

What are the Registration FEEs at Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ)??

Our registration fees for both new & renewal registrants are outlined as follows:

  1. Veterinary Surgeons.
    The registration fee for all veterinary surgeon degree holdersĀ  is Kwacha One Thousand Seven Hundred (K1,700.00)


  2. Veterinary Para Class 1.
    The registration fee for all veterinary para class 1 degree holders is Kwacha Eight Hundred (K800.00).


  3. Veterinary Para Class 2.
    The registration fee for all veterinary para class 2 diploma holders is Kwacha Six Hundred Fifty (K650.00).


  4. Veterinary Para Class 3.
    The registration fee for all veterinary para class 3 certificate holders is Kwacha Five Hundred (K500.00).


  5. Animal Health Facility.
    The registration fee for all clinical Animal Health Facilities is Kwacha Two Hundred (K200.00).

 

What are the fees for registration of FRESH Graduates?

The registration fees for fresh graduates are:

  1. Veterinary Surgeons.
    The registration fee for fresh graduate veterinary surgeon degree holder is Kwacha Six Hundred (K600.00)


  2. Veterinary Para Class 1.
    The registration fee for fresh graduate veterinary para class 1 degree holder is Kwacha Three Hundred Fifty (K350.00).


  3. Veterinary Para Class 2.
    The registration fee for fresh graduate veterinary para class 2 diploma holder is Kwacha Two Hundred Fifty (K250.00).


  4. Veterinary Para Class 3.
    The registration fee for fresh graduate veterinary para class 3 certificate holder is Kwacha One Hundred Fifty (K150.00).

Does VAZ deliver physical hard copy certificates via EMS?

VAZ does delivery of certificates via EMS.
